The doctrine of the Trinity is absolutely unbiblical and wrong, the product of fallible human philosophizing, but in the religious life and the religious practices of Christian Churches this doctrine plays no role. As we have said before the doctrine of the immortal soul which is rewarded in heaven or punished in hell is a lot more harmful. What are Christians who are confronted with the false teaching regarding the immortality of the human soul to do? Our website cannot answer this question. But the website can formulate a number of thoughts regarding this subject:
---People who are members of a Church which teaches the immortality of the soul can adopt a critical attitude in their local congregation and try to convince others of the wrongness of this notion. They can use arguments that our website has formulated. Or ask people to visit our website and study the relevant articles. |
---People who want to go one step further can start looking for a Church which does not teach the immortality of the soul, but completely places its hope on the establishing of God’s Kingdom and the resurrection of the souls who “sleep” in death.
---People who are not members of a Christian Church and want to obey Jesus’ summons to all Christians to come together regularly, can consciously choose a Church which only holds views which have a solid Biblical foundation.
---If this website succeeds in finding sufficient response and support with people who are sincerely looking for truth, it might in due time begin to play a role in opening the discussion about this matter within the big Christian Churches. This might seem completely useless at first sight: it looks as if the immortality of human souls is the central doctrine of all Christian Churches, but appearances are deceptive. In reality the doctrine of the immortality of human souls has long been something that all Christian Churches find doubtful and open to question. For decades Christian Churches have hardly talked about hell as a possible destination for human souls. Heaven as a final destination is also mentioned less and less. In the twenty-first century human immortality, heaven, hell and purgatory only exist as part of an oral tradition, kept alive by people who are no so well acquainted with modern religious practice. If this development continues, these ideas will soon completely melt away.
--- Mind: all the standpoints of this website as regards religious matters emanated from big, well-known Dutch, English and American theological standard works. And in fact: standard works which were not written for professional theologians, but for interested laymen. And in addition: standard works which originated from the world of only the really big Christian Churches.
In short: if this website rejects the notion of an immortal human soul and views only the hope of a resurrection as supported by the Bible, it expresses neither the private point of view of the author nor an opinion of a small Church on the edge of Christianity. In fact the website expresses an opinion which all big Christian Churches find completely acceptable and right.
